With each pregnancy we've done a maternity session. This time around I almost didn't do it as I knew I wanted pictures after baby for sure and how many bellies do I need pictures of? Mine aren't all that different from pregnancy to pregnancy after all. But the maternity shoots aren't really about the belly for me, they are about capturing what life is like with the belly, just before a new baby. As a photographer I value capturing life's beautiful moments more than most I'm sure but it's not just because I'm a photographer. I've heard it said so many times that it "goes so fast" that I'm more than desperate to hold onto the every day moments I share with my kids. They are so stinking adorable and wonderful and fun and even though the days are long and almost always emotionally exhausting, they are more beautiful and full of life too.

Today as I write and post this I am still pregnant. Lucy's due date was yesterday, October 14. She's officially a day late and counting but I'm glad she didn't arrive on her due date, her brother's birthday. There are so few things in life that are just yours and a birthday should be one of them in my opinion.
